V – How to plan a variety of ideas for your blog posts. #AtoZ

AtoZ blogging challenge

A couple of days ago I shared a post — ‘Schedule your posts‘ — where I spoke about creating a content calendar for your blog to be prepared with a post bank and save yourself from Writer’s Block.

Creating a content calendar ensures a post on your publishing days. It also gives you a fair idea of which topics you have covered and which need to be written about.

Today, I am trying to write about planning a variety of ideas for your blog so that it becomes easy for you to schedule your posts.

This gets easy if you have a niche. I mean, if yours is a travel blog, or a food blog, or even a health blog, like mine, then you already have solved half the problem.

You know which topics you can possibly work on.

And even if it’s not a niche blog, you can decide on a variety of topics to be scheduled for the future! In fact, I feel that is easier on a personal blog. It’s like a diary where you share your thoughts, anecdotes from your daily life, or views on certain matters you might wish to share with your readers.

For a niche blog:

Mine is a health and wellness blog. And, I have divided this category into four sub-sections.

Physical Health – fitness and its importance, various fitness regimens.

Mental Health – mental illness, care for caregivers, etc.

Emotional Health – practicing mindfulness, meditation, self-care…

Food & Nutrition– kinds of diet, benefits of different foodstuffs, etc.

I have divided my diary into four parts, where I plan my posts every month. And, in every section, I note down related topics as and when I think of them. Or, maybe when I come across a topic while reading the newspapers or a health magazine and feel I could write it from my point of view.

So, basically, if you first make a list of topics you could write on for your niche, or on your chosen subject, it becomes easy slotting the topics throughout the month. Allotting a topic per section throughout the month gives equal focus to every sub-category.  Even your experiences can be worked upon for a post when it comes to a health post or a travel post.

This being the first time that I am working this diligently on topics for a particular category and on creating appropriate content for my blog, this post is actually for me, to remember when I create the calendar for the coming months.

I hope you are able to take something away from this post; something that might help you in preparing topics for your blog, if you are a newbie blogger.

If you have any suggestions regarding how to plan topics for a niche blog, do share. Your pointers will be helpful for me as well as my readers.

Thank you!

April 2018 A to Z blogging Challenge

My theme for the A to Z Blogging Challenge is all about my blog, Metanoia, and my blogging journey from the time  I started, 5 years ago. The lessons I learnt, the tips and tricks I picked up from fellow bloggers and the guidelines I could have used back when I began.

You will find all of my A to Z posts here.

  1. I’ve read most of your posts Shilpa and each one has added value to my journey of blogging so much so that I have decided to visit them at regular intervals to check if I am on the right track. I really feel elated to have found my soul sister in you. ❤️❤️❤️

    1. Aww…thank you for your warmth, Sonia!

Today’s post was a toughie! And, frankly, I am not very pleased by my writing, which is rather unusual! I guess the fever of A to Z has really gotten me in its grip. And, I don’t mean the excitement, but the exhaustion of blogging and blog hopping and the working on posts for the letters!!! 😛

    1. Really, Sunita?? I thought I could have done it better with some more experience! I wanted to do this post, but in greater detail. Maybe after a few months I will give it a try again.
Thank you so much for your encouragement my dear! ❤

  2. Oh SHilpa, this is one aspect of Blogging that drives me crazy. I do make a list and a plan for putting up posts, but often strugggle to have a variety, even within my niche. What I try to do is, try to get feelers from Social media feeds, as to what is trending and pick something suitable wrt to my niche
