Looking after ourselves is the most important thing in today’s stressful world. With all the other important stuff demanding our attention, we often forget to think about the most important ‘self’.
But, do you know that taking care of ourselves is really the most easiest of all?
It hardly asks much–our ‘self’. All it asks for is a little bit of attention, love and care.
And, there are some really simple ways to self-care. It need not be something unaffordable or unattainable. There are some really simple ways (and cute ones, too!) to self-care, two of which I am sharing with you all today.
I know, it feels like you have been hearing this self-care tip everywhere, all the time! But, music has such a therapeutic effect on our mind that in a matter of seconds it can whisk you away from the din of the world into its own rhythmic land.
There is a tiny problem, though. It won’t help if you listen to soulful songs when feeling low and lonely; it will only worsen the situation and send you deeper into the abyss.
I did it for quite some time and realized how gloomy it made me feel, so I switched over to peppy numbers, motivational songs…anything cheerful that set the tempo when lethargy crept up into my system.
Listening to some lively tunes while making my artwork, fills me with an indescribable energy which gives me such a ‘high’, I can actually feel the adrenalin rush! I have made a playlist which I listen to especially while working on an art piece.
There’s another list of songs I play while walking, and another one when I wish to chill out on a Sunday.
Here’s what you can do.
On a Sunday, when all the chores are done and you have some time on your hands, sit down to make your playlists.
Label them all – for e.g. WALK MUSIC, CHORE NUMBERS, RELAXING TUNES, LULLABIES…you can use your own creativity and make as many lists as you wish to.
Listen to them while working or relaxing and feel the difference that does to your mood!
5 WAYS TO MAKE MUSIC A PART OF YOUR EVERYDAY SCHEDULE:
- Prepare playlists that you can listen to during different activities.
- When in the need to boost your energy levels, put on some lively numbers and dance along.
- Dance like no one’s watching, because no one is watching! Just let yourself go! You will love this thrilling activity.
- Don’t worry if you can’t dance, just start moving. It makes for a fantastic workout in the privacy of your home.
- Sing along, too, even if you can’t. Sing at the top of your voice and feel the difference in your mood.
It’s the best thing to fight loneliness with.
L – LOVE YOURSELF, RELENTLESSLY
I couldn’t decide on which topic to choose from these two for the letter L, so I chose them both!
So, do you love yourself?
It was quite late in life when I realized what it meant by loving oneself.
Loving yourself means:
Accepting yourself as you are and celebrating your uniqueness.
It means refraining from criticizing yourself or admonishing yourself for things that go wrong.
It means not blaming yourself for all the heartbreak you suffer from.
It means respecting yourself despite your flaws; being proud of yourself for getting through the highs and lows of life, bravely. Yes, you ARE brave…very very brave!
And, finally, loving yourself means, making yourself a priority.
(I know, this last point is very difficult to achieve, for there are so many people who vie for that top spot on our priority lists. But, it pays to prioritize yourself alongside them all. For, only if you love yourself, can you love others, and keep them happy!)
