Art to keep the mind agile.

Zentangle is an art form that I can never find intimidating or tedious. I am addicted to it! It takes my mind away from stuff that bothers me and helps me find immense peace. I usually play music while drawing, so the atmosphere is such, I get a kick from making the drawings!

So, this month, after a long break from art, these are the two drawings I attempted.

You may come across the lips on Pinterest, Instagram, and Google. So many have attempted this drawing; how could I not? Drawing the lips was very difficult for me, though. Not having made any anatomical drawings in a long time, it took me quite a few attempts to get those lips right! And, it appears so easy, isn’t it?

LIPS IN ZENTANGLE

The Monstera leaf was made in watercolor by my friend, Rajlakshmi, and when she shared it on her blog, I decided to draw it in Zentangle. So, here it is. I loved making this one.

The pencil drawing was on top of my to-do list this month. So, when I sat down to make an illustration and my mind went blank, I decided to sketch my hand. Mother often tells me how she improved her anatomical drawing by making pencil sketches of herself when she failed to find any models!

I drew my hand without moving it an inch the entire time. And, boy, was it a huge task keeping it still for so long! I wonder how the models sit for hours together at art schools as the students make their sketches.

I know I have a long long way to go before I get any perfection in the anatomical drawing. But, I enjoyed the beginning, for sure, and am looking forward to making more of these.

We are all born creative, you know? Some may feel they don’t have it in them, but if they put their mind and soul into it, they can succeed at what they desire.

It takes regular practice, loads of patience and perseverance. All you have to do is make a beginning, and the rest will follow. And, as I have experienced, art is one of the best therapies for the mind. You don’t need to worry about the end as long as you enjoy the journey of creating it.

Try it to believe it!

  2. Love the zentangled lips! And you know I agree with you about art and about how we are all innately creative. We just need to start and try and persevere! There’s truly no match to art therapy.

  3. I do enjoy and am inspired by your Zentangle-inspired drawings! Lately, I’ve been wanting to try the sort of art @gommaliciious posts on Instagram – if you haven’t seen it, go look. I think it’s right up your alley, too, only you actually have the skills. πŸ™‚
